The Nordic Jazz Sanctuary

Copenhagen’s deep affection for jazz began in the late 1950s and 1960s, when American masters Dexter Gordon, Ben Webster, Kenny Drew, and Stan Getz relocated to the Danish capital. They established a culture of deep musical respect, intimate listening rooms, and relaxed European living that persists to this day.

During the Copenhagen Jazz Festival every July, the entire capital becomes a stage. More than 1,200 concerts take place over ten days across Nyhavn’s colorful canal banks, historic brewery courtyards, royal castle grounds, and smoky basement clubs.
